ABOUT THE PORSCHE 911 CARRERA 3,2

As from model year 1984, Porsche used the time-honored Carrera name for the first time for an entire model range. The latest generation could be recognized by a differently styled front apron with enclosed fog lamps and “telephone” cast alloy rims. It was available in coupé, targa and cabriolet body designs.

Optionally the coupé was offered in turbo look featuring it’s big brothers chassis, suspension, brakes and wail tail.

The Carrera 3,2 had a longer stroke, higher compression 3164cc engine featuring Bosch motronic electronic ignition mapping, more efficient intake and lower back pressure exhaust system resulting in a smoother engine operation and a healthy 231hp. As from model year 1987, the 915 gearbox which had been painstakingly adjusting to the altered engine profile, was replaced by the G50 gearbox offering a much more precise and smoother gear change. Brakes where upgraded to assure stopping power matched the 3,2 Carrera’s performance.

The 911 turbo that had been available since fall 1977 with 3,3 litre 300hp engine was continued during the Carrera 3,2’s production run. Recognisable by it’s low front spoiler, huge “wail tail” and it’s sturdily flared wings housing the iconic 16” Fuchs, the 911 turbo was an impressive but stylish machine. Street credibility came as standard. The turbo 3,3 had perforated brake discs and aluminium callipers with cooling ribs like Porsche’s legendary 917 race car. Most important upgrades in this period where nine-inch rear Fuchs with 245/45VR16 tires in 1985 and a five speed gear box as from 1988 for it’s last 2 model years.

The fundamentalist had also been provided for in the forms of the 1987 Carrera Clubsport.
